Kvass (Russian language|Russian: квас) ("leaven") is a fermentation|fermented non-alcoholic or mildly alcoholic beverage popular in Russia and other Eastern European countries.Kvass has been a common drink in Russia since ancient times. It has been both a commercial product and homemade.It is made by the natural fermentation of whatever vegetable product is available. Fruits and berry|berries were probably the first for this use. A notable raw material for kvass is birch sap, collected in the early spring. cereal|Grain suits well for this purpose, for example, wheat, rye, or barley (common or table kvass). For modern homemade kvass, most often black or rye bread is used, usually dried or fried beforehand, with the addition of sugar or fruit (e.g. apple (fruit)|apples), and with yeast added for fermentation.In strength kvass can be almost non-alcoholic and at its strongest is only around 2.2%. It can often be flavoured with other fruits or herbs such a! s strawberry|strawberries or mint.Russians also use kvass for cooking special summer cold soup - "okroshka".In urban Russia, Kombucha (a beverage that became popular in Russia since the start of 20th century) is sometimes referred to as "tea kvass" or (incorrectly) simply as "kvass", although these two drinks taste different.

The bill paying / scheduling is not integrated with the 'accounts' ( not is the budget feature as far as I can tell...).I could not enter my existing mortgage information -- it insisted that the amounts were *wrong*.(Gee... perhaps I should tell that to my bank...). I cant link a scheduled payment with a credit card account (or loan account, etc...).There doesn't seem to be any way for it to automatically recognize payments (for example an electronic payment to citibank - you have to catagorize it yourself each and every month). I would say that half of the screens are nothing but advertising from various financial insitutions (who probably paid MS loads of money for the privledge). I'm going back to Quicken....

The Charles Shaw winery in the United States is known for its "extreme value" wines produced in California. These wines are currently Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and most recently Shiraz grape|Shiraz varietals, all from California vineyards. They are distributed exclusively by Trader Joe's grocery stores, and in California sell for $1.99. Because of this, the Charles ("Chuck") Shaw wines are affectionately known as ''Two buck Chuck''.Due to the three-tier system, in other states the price ranges up to around $4. The Two Buck Chuck is an example of the recent trend of impoverished wine drinkers seeking the greatest value. These wines have sometimes been rated higher than wines costing more in blind taste tests of college students, but since the composition is constantly changing based on wine and grape sources, it is not especially consistent.

Spiderwort (''Tradescantia'') is a genus of about 70 species of perennial plants in the family Commelinaceae, native to the New World from southern Canada south to northern Argentina. They are scrambling plants, growing to 30-60 cm tall, and are commonly found individually or in clumps in wooded areas and fields. The leaf|leaves are long, thin and bladelike to lanceolate, from 3-45 cm long. The flowers are white, pink or purple, with three petals and yellow stamens.Though sometimes accounted a weed, spiderwort is cultivated for borders and also used in containers. Rammed earth construction is an old construction|building method that has seen a revival in recent years as people seek low-impact building materials and natural building methods. Traditionally, rammed earth buildings are common in arid regions where wood is in scare supply.Walls are constructed from a mixture of soil|earth that has suitable proportions of sand, gravel and clay sometimes with an added stabiliser. Traditional stabilisers such as lime or animal blood were used to stabilise the material, but if required cement has been the stabiliser of choice for modern times.Formwork is set up creating the desired shape of the section of wall, damp material is poured in to a depth of between 100 to 250mm (4 to 10 inches). A pneumatically powered backfill tamper - something like a pogo stick with a flat plate on the bottom - is then used to compact the material to around 50% of its original height. Further layers of material are added and the process is repeated until the wa! ll has reached the desired height. Once the mixture is set the forms are removed and the wall is water sealed. In modern variations of the method the rammed earth walls are constructed on top of conventional footings and a reinforced concrete base, usually with extra ground insulation from a horizontal layer of styrofoam. On of the significant benefits of rammed earth constructions is its excellent thermal mass; it heats up slowly during the day and releases its heat during the evening. This can even out daily temperature variations and reduce the need for air conditioning and heating. On the other hand, rammed earth is not a good insulator. Like brick and concrete (which also have excellent thermal mass), rammed earth must be insulated in colder climates. The thickness and density of the walls lends itself naturally to sound proofing and the materials used in the walls make them virtually fireproof.Prior to the use of cement as a stabilizer, rammed earth buildings were mos! t successful in dry climates with limited availability of buil! ding mat erials other than earth. Rammed earth has become a viable material in wetter climates, either through the use of cement stabilisation, through placing the earth walls within the weatherproof fabric of the building, or by the aplication of external insulation and weatherproofing.

Retsina


Retsina is a Greece|Greek resinated white (or rosé) wine dating back at least 2700 years. Its unique flavor is said to have originated from the practice of sealing wine vessels, particularly amphora, with pine resin in ancient times. Before the invention of impermeable glass bottles, oxygen caused many wines to spoil within the year. Pine resin helped keep air out, while at the same time infusing the wine with resin aroma. In time the practice of adding resin to the fermenting must have flavored the wine even more strongly, and apparently kept it better preserved.The Ancient Rome|Romans began to use Barrel (storage)|barrels in the 3rd century AD, removing any enological necessity for resin, but the flavor itself was so popular that the style is still widespread today. It is perhaps the most commonly-drunk wine in Greece (though not equally popular in all its regions), and, given its strong flavor, is best served with the strongly herbed dishes characteristic of Gree! k cuisine and Mediterranean cuisine in general.
